You may have heard the term design for wellbeing and conscious lifestyle being thrown around when it comes to the many brand designers out there, and sometimes they can seem like vague and all encompassing terms. After 16 years in design and 8 in business I have niched to work in the business of wellbeing business and entrepreneurs, and I’m here to tell you what that means for me, in the hope that it will in turn help you to think about your WHY.
Emphasis on SELF CARE
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
We have been conditioned to think that fast is better, that more productive is good for business, that for a while we neglected to look after ourselves. This unfortunately is an attitude that still exists in many agency models and businesses, and while productive is good it can come at a cost. It’s only in the last decade that people have started to realise that this isn’t good for us. My own journey of burn out and anxiety led me to research and read about the human mind, and put strategies and routines in place to protect my mind and body from the stressors of life (this is ongoing work!) Are you cultivating a culture based on self care? Are you helping others? What can you give others and yourself to make life better? Time? An experience? Relief? Joy?
Design for GOOD
After the retail industry boomed people manufactured more and faster, leaving little time to think about the lasting impact on the environment, our bodies and our health. Now that the implications of that are more apparent as we see the impact of fast fashion, palm oils, stress and burn out, we can all do more to try and create products and services that are more beneficial to ourselves and the planet. Are you supporting a culture that is striving for something better? The phrase ‘quality over quantity’ has never been more relevant in 2021. Are your materials, ingredients and services sustainable and helpful? How can you give back to support other people and places?
Living CONSCIOUSLY
You started your business because you wanted to make a change, whether that be an impact on the self, a way of living, or the larger world. You care about people and the planet, enough to make changes however small. As a branding and packaging expert it’s my job to help make your goals a reality and I would love nothing more than to help you make an impact in the world. You don’t have to be an ‘eco-warrior’ to be in the business of wellness. Wellbeing has an effect on everyone’s lives whether it lies in a favourite product, a ritual, a photograph, a living space, a piece of music, or with a banging cup of fresh coffee (that’s where you’ll find me).
I’d love to discuss how you want to show up in the world! If you are in need of brand clarity or have a product or service the world, simply send me an enquiry through the contact form, we would love to hear from you!
Best wishes,
Jo
